      Compassion Based Living Course

Developing a friendly and compassionate attitude towards ourselves and others has a transformative effect on our mind and our wellbeing. Neuroscience and psychology are backing up what wise teachers have been telling us for centuries. We can develop positive emotional habits that make us more resilient in times of stress or difficulty. We’ll use Mindfulness based exercises to cultivate feelings of warmth, security, acceptance and connectedness with ourselves and with others. We’ll explore how we respond compassionately to ourselves in times of difficulty and how to relate to our challenging emotions. Compassion training embraces our innate qualities of kindness, empathy, generosity and acceptance as well as strength, courage, equanimity and joy. The practices invite these qualities to grow and flourish. This course uses Mindfulness as its foundation and integrates wisdom from Evolutionary Psychology, Neuroscience and Mahayana Buddhism. We will connect with the practices in an embodied way to deepen their effect, beginning with self- compassion for ourselves, so that when we reach out to others with compassion it comes from an authentic place within us. After exploring a variety of meditation techniques, Mindfulness gave her a feeling of 'coming home'. She discovered the power of self-acceptance and her meditation and life began to change. Inspired to continue, she completed her Mindfulness Training in 2011 at Samye Ling with Rob Nairn and went on to train in Compassion and Insight and then Teaching skills for the Mindfulness and Compassion 8-week courses with the Mindfulness Association. She has also studied with international Compassion teachers, Sir Paul Gilbert, Kristin Neff and Chris Germer.  Sally follows the Good Practice Guidelines and is on the UK listing of Mindfulness Teachers. Since 2013 She has been regularly delivering Mindfulness and Compassion training courses to private groups and organisations. Sally suffered from chronic fatigue in her early 20s. This drew her to body-awareness based practices including Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and learning about nervous system regulation.   She runs regular classes including Trauma Informed Chair Yoga for people with chronic illness, pain and fatigue. She enjoys leading workshops and retreats weaving Mindfulness and movement with themes from the natural world. Her years of teaching yoga adds a wealth of experience in helping people drop deeply into their bodies and embody the practices.
