Connecting classical collections: Engaging with histories, networking for the future

Connecting classical collections: Engaging with histories, networking for the future This free one-day event aims to bring together those with an interest in classical collections in UK museums for a day of networking, inspiration and support. Building on last year’s successful conference, which explored the potential for a new Subject Specialist Network for classical collections, attendees will have the chance to review progress and discuss and shape next steps. There will also be presentations on projects addressing the theme of making connections with audiences through collection history. The conference will take place in the Clore Learning Suite at the Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle, and delegates will have an opportunity to visit the Shefton Collection of Greek Art and Archaeology at the Museum. Programme The provisional programme for the day, which is subject to change, can be found at https://connectingclassicalcollections.wordpress.com Who should attend? This event is free to attend and open to anyone working with classical collections in UK museums; in particular, curators whose remit includes such collections, as well as PhD students, academics and volunteers researching or working with classical museum objects. As this event is designed to benefit the UK museum sector, we regret that this event is not suitable for other members of the public. How to register Places are limited to 36 delegates. You can register your interest via this Eventbrite page until 6 September, and we will confirm whether you have a place as soon as possible. Please be prepared to briefly outline your role and the nature of your interest in this event. A limited number of travel bursaries will be available for delegates for whom travel costs would be prohibitive. This event has been made possible thanks to the Vivmar Foundation, and their generous support of the British Museum's national Knowledge Share programme.
