This is the North - People's Powerhouse Convention

THIS IS THE NORTH ! Collaborate. Debate. Network. Share. Inspire!   This year’s #ThisIsTheNorth Convention is in SUNDERLAND!! As ever, together we will continue to inspire and lead change in the North, and we would love for you to get involved. Our mission is to bring people together for meaningful dialogue, sharing and action - be they community groups, young people, practitioners, policy makers, opinion formers, businesses, or MPs. Now is the time for a People's Plan for the North, outlining the priorities and steps to make the North a place where all people and communities can thrive. Created and lead by the people of the North join us in Sunderland to start to co-create the beginnings of a plan that put people at the centre of the Powerhouse plans.    See our exciting and jam packed programme here We believe that by sharing platforms with each other, collaborating in formulating a programme for our day and continuing to work together beyond Sunderland we will better understand the issues that affect us all and find solutions that work for more people.   We want to be part of a North that:   Is more inclusive and where our diverse voices and strengths are represented Has a good economy that works for more people Genuinely includes local people in local decision making Has a focus on the value of all our places Is an exemplar of collaboration, sharing and learning together   At last year’s convention we launched the Charter, we believe that, these foundations will transform the fortunes of peoples’ lives in the North.   If you’re up for celebrating the great things that are already happening in the North and you have ideas about how better lives for all of us in the North can be achieved – this event is for you! Come and be part of this years’ big conversation.   This is a great opportunity for you to raise awareness of your work, organisation, campaign or service and genuinely connect, collaborate and create, helping to shape the kind of North we all want to live and work in.   In addition to registering as a participant, there is an opportunity for organisations and people to send us your ideas for sessions you want to lead on the day by clicking here    Contributors Confirmed: Dr Kate Fox, stand up poet, Northerner, writer Councillor Graeme Miller, Leader, Sunderland Council Edna Robinson, Chair, People’s Powerhouse (also Big Life Group, Trafford Housing Trust) Nicola Headlam, BEIS Nazir Afzal OBE, Lawyer, international adviser, NGO Chair, former Chief Prosecutor Neil McInroy, Chief Executive, CLES Amaragita Pearse, Extinction Rebellion  Olivia Lee, Contact Theatre Manchester and People’s Powerhouse Young Ambassador Vidhya Alekson, Power to Change Patrick Melia, CEO, Sunderland Council Arianna Giovannini, Interim Director, IPPR North and De Montfort University Ed Cox, Director, RSA Emma Scarr and Michael Barrass, The Cultural Spring, Sunderland and South Tyneside Heart of Glass, St Helens Carol Botten, CEO, VONNE
