      How can we make our cities smarter?

      Were building a model cardboard city of the future and we need your help to design it.
      Join Discovery Museums Inventor in Residence Matt Wright to make the most enjoyable, most responsive and greenest city you can imagine living in.

      Using LittleBits, Lego®, lots of cardboard and plenty of ingenuity, youll create mini buildings to add to the model metropolis which will be displayed at our Smart City Showcase on Sunday 7 July.

      Discover how designers, architects and engineers are working together to create cities which can respond intelligently to changes in the weather, traffic flow and city-wide problems.

      Please note, there are two separate workshops in this series, you can purchase a ticket to attend one workshop for £3 or join us for both for £5 (to book the two session ticket select the event with the 9.55am start time).
      10.00am 12.00pm: Designing and Building a City 
      Join us to design and build a city using a range of materials including cardboard and Lego®
      1.30pm 3.30pm: Making a City Smart 
      Join us for an introduction to the world of electronics and explore how to make a city smart using LittleBits

      New Inventors: Inventors in Residence is Discovery Museums exciting residency programme working with STEM practitioners to devise and deliver a bold and innovative school and events programme to spark imagination and inspire a new generation of inventors, designers and makers.

      New Inventors: Inventors in Residence has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Platten Family Fund at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. The fund was established in 2014 and supports the charitable activity that inspires the next generation of engineers.
